Heavy light body

Our spontaneous playground proposal idea for the historic and massive SCHWERBELASTUNGSKÖRPER (heavy-duty body) in Berlin.

The »heavy-duty body« bears witness to the most megalomaniac building projects that Berlin has ever seen. From 1937, under the direction of General Building Inspector Albert Spee,a gigantic project was planned that was to completely redesign Berlin. For this reason In 1941, a technical structure was erected in the immediate vicinity of the planned triumphal arch, which was intended to test the load-bearing capacity of the subsoil for this monumental building on the north-south axis. The so-called heavy-duty body, a cylindrical pressure body made of solid concrete, has a diameter of 21 meters. It is 14 meters high and 18 meters deep.

The design concept focuses on turning the heavy-duty body into a playground where people can come to play, socialize, and enjoy breathtaking views of the city. We have imagined two huge funnel nets that will provide an exciting climbing challenge for adventurous kids and adults alike. These nets will take visitors all the way to the top of the 20-meter-high structure, where they can take in panoramic views of the city.
We have also incorporated two long spiral tunnel slides that run along the sides of the building, providing an exhilarating experience for those who want to slide down.

This idea aims to bring a new life to this historic structure by transforming it into a space that is full of color, joy, and happiness. By creating a playful environment that encourages people to interact with the building, we hope to celebrate the city’s history while also providing a space for people to come together and enjoy.
